MyXC SkiSparks Volunteer Manual
It is my great pleasure to welcome you to volunteering for SkiSparks! In 1993, the Minnesota Youth Ski League was founded on the dream of giving every kid who wants to ski the opportunity to do so. Almost three decades later we are still grounded in that dream and evolving to meet the public health and equity needs of our changing world. We believe in giving all children the opportunity to ski and work to remove financial and cultural barriers to cross-country skiing.
SkiSparks is our program that meets 8 times a winter to develop cross-country ski skills. We focus on fun. Every SkiSparks club is entirely volunteer run.
I value the time and commitment our volunteers contribute to bring joy to the lives of children throughout our region. Currently we have over 40 SkiSparks clubs throughout Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan. Last year over 3,000 kids skied in SkiSparks with the help of nearly 1,000 volunteers like you.
As we embark in a new era of COVID-19 we face many challenges and uncertainties together. One thing has remained constant throughout this health crisis, getting outside for vigorous exercise is one thing that you definitely can do with minimal risk. Together we will encourage kids to have fun outside and learn the lifelong sport of cross-country skiing during a winter when so many are facing isolation and minimal fresh air and exercise. With your help, we can transform winter to a time of warmth, laughter, connections and health.
In Partnership,
Chrissy Snider
MyXC SkiSparks Coordinator
