Good Afternoon Hiawatha Noon Families -
While we have all been eagerly anticipating our first in-person meeting of the season this coming Saturday, it looks like Mother Nature is not cooperating with us and we have to cancel the Feb 6th session. The Loppet races have been cancelled, high schoolers aren’t skiing outside, and I’m not sure why our kids are any different. Too many cold fingers, toes and noses for our first day! So, we need to wait just one more week before we are all together again!
However, we do want everyone to get their bib(s) this weekend. Please come to Hiawatha between 12pm-12:30pm, which will save time (more time for skiing!) and streamline our check-in process at our first in-person session on February 13.
So get out of the house for a few minutes on Saturday, February 6th to come to Hiawatha Clubhouse to pick up skier bibs and your fun bag if you haven't picked it up already. Then, go back home and warm up again!
Below is our overall plan for check-in and COVID precautions at each of our in-person sessions (Feb. 13th, Feb. 20st, Feb. 27th, may have another in March).
As a reminder we have to stagger our start times. The levels will start at the following times to limit congestion on the trails and at check-in.
MYSL Sat Noon Hiawatha Arrival and Check-in Procedure:
Level 4 through 6 arrive at 12:00 pm and ski until 1:30 pm
Level 1, 2 and 3 arrive at 12:15 pm and ski until 1:30 pm
Each week, there will be a check-in table near the Hiawatha clubhouse where skiers and volunteers will be asked the health screening questions and attendance will be taken.
Once the skier checks in, they will go to their coach without parents (except Level 1, see below). Each coach will have approximately four skiers and groups can go off to ski as soon as everyone in their group has checked in. There will be no large group activity this season. At the end of the session, families will pick up their skier back at the check-in area. All skiers will have a phone number and contact number at the back of their nametag (on their bib) in case a coach needs to contact a parent/caregiver.
o All skiers and volunteers will need to answer the health screening questions at the check-in area each time we meet.
o A mask is required for everyone and needs to be worn over the nose and mouth. A buff or neckwarmer qualifies.
o If you are not volunteering, you may stay at the check-in area until your skier passes the health screening, but then we ask you to leave promptly. Please do not congregate or socialize at the check-in/check-out area.
o Each Level 1 skier should have a caregiver present in their group as a registered volunteer in case their skier needs help. Caregivers do not need to be on skis.
o Skiers in Levels 2-6 should be independent with carrying equipment and putting it on. Before the first club meeting, please have your skier practice putting on their equipment independently.
o Please stay within 10 minutes of the Hiawatha clubhouse in case your skier’s coach needs you to return.
We do understand that the staggered start times will be inconvenient for families with multiple skiers and different start times. Remember that we are all working hard to keep transmission rates low and COVID guidelines for meeting in person require us to keep everyone spread out as much as possible.
MYSL COVID Safety Reminder
If you have been exposed to COVID-19 or have symptoms, do not attend in person programming. Please stay home and consult with your healthcare provider.
IMPORTANT: If someone in your household has attended in-person SkiSparks and a household member tests positive for COVID-19, please email amy@mysl.org immediately.
Remember to be on time for your SkiSparks check-in and picking up your skier.
Due to attendance and contact tracing requirements, only registered volunteers are allowed to ski with groups.
Face coverings are required the entire time you are outside at the facility.
Please email John Saunders at noblesaunders@gmail.com if you have any questions.
Thanks all and see you next week!
