The Cross Country World (Cup) is Coming!
The 2020 Coop FIS Cross Country Ski World Cup Sprint Finals on March 17th will mark the first time in two decades that the world's best skiers have competed on American snow. The race will cap off the March 14-17th Fastenal Parallel 45 Winter Festival, which is a collection of live music, adult pariticpant events, the Midwest Youth Championships and MyXC Festival.
Please see this post, which attempts to explain what all of the terms above mean.
All MyXC families should try to attend some part of this four-day fiasco. It will have a lasting effect on your young skier.
1985 Giants Ridge World Cup. Amy Cichanowski and Juha Mieto.
These are the highlights by day for youth/families. Note there is an expo, beer and live music for much of this time:
Saturday Mar 14th: MyXC Festival - games, obstacle course, paint ball biathlon, skijoring (dogs!), Fishscale Frenzy, food. This is our regional celebration for all MyXC SkiSparks Clubs!
Saturday Mar 14 & Sunday Mar 15: Midwest Youth Championships. Age group racing U8-U16. Classic on Saturday and Skate events on Sunday. Both days feature individual and relay events. These are the last races in the 2020 Skiwerx Series.
Monday Mar 16: Free access (no tickets required) to come and watch the best skiers in the world as they inspect the course and test wax. Official athlete course inspection is 4-6pm.
Tuesday Mar 17: The athletes ski qualifiers (prelude) beginning at 2:15pm. Lots of great gawking starting at noon when athletes begin warming up. Heats (the big show) begin at 4:45pm and take about 90 minutes. Then there is a brief awards ceremony, followed by an informal opportunity to ask an athlete to sign your hat or other item (bring a Sharpie). I give everyone permission to take the day off of work/school. You won't regret it. If you can't swing the whole day, try to make it for the heats.
