SkiSparks Wirth - Week 8 - Saturday, February 23
Welcome to the snowiest February on record. Tomorrow should be a great day for skiing with temps in the 30's and moderate snowfall.
Just a few announcements this week. Details are below.
1. Building our club for next year
2. Information about March 2, the last club meeting of the season
3. Rental Returns
1. BUILDING A STRONG CLUB
We love SkiSparks and over the next few years want to build a strong club with a broad base of volunteer families.
Over time, families with older kids move on to other activities. It's the natural order of things, but it means we need to recruit new volunteers to help coach, manage rental skis, organize snacks, and get kids registered.
I can say from experience, the people are great and many roles don't require getting out on the snow, at all. By breaking up the tasks, we can make light work for everyone and allow people to jump in as time and schedules allow.
Since people have been asking, I plan to lead the club again next year, but hope to work more with parents who want to develop Nordic skills and move into coaching. Andy Martinson (Level 4) coach has volunteered to take over equipment rentals. With your help and some advance planning, thanks to Britta Walker (Level 1), we can build on the momentum provided by Jessie Diggins, the Loppet Trailhead, and the snowiest February on record.
If you are interested in helping out please use the link below. IT'S JUST AN EXPRESSION OF INTEREST. YOU'RE NOT SIGNING YOUR LIFE AWAY. We'll contact you with more information at the end of the season. Then, we will contact you again next September to confirm – because we know schedules change.
MARCH 2 - RACES - AWARDS CEREMONY - PIZZA - RSVP REQUESTED
Our final club meeting for the season is March 2, the weekend of the Midwest Junior Championship Races. It’s a weekend of youth ski activities. There is no additional cost to participate in these low-key events, and all of our kids are registered for both the Carnival events and the Fishscale Frenzy Fun Race.
The Carnival starts at 10:30, and the Fishscale Frenzy starts at 11:15. If your kids are participating in the Fishscale Frenzy, it’s a good idea to come at least a half hour early.
We will also hold our awards ceremony and final banquet in the Trailhead Building beginning around 1:30 (as soon as possible after the last relays). All of the kids will be recognized for their hard work and receive a level pin.
Instead of the traditional potluck, we will be ordering pizza, so RSVP’s are important this year. There's also food and beer available for purchase from Cajun Twist.
3. RENTAL RETURN OPTIONS
Saturday 23 and March 2, 2019
If you want to drop off skis this weekend, please check in at the snack table after the club meeting. We will have rental return slips and point you to the designated drop off spot. On March 2nd we’ll have someone available after our club award ceremony.
Ski drop off after March 2nd
Please drop the skis at Andy Martinson's home at 2409 34th Ave S, in Minneapolis near the Birchwood Cafe. There will be a large garbage bin in the back yard near the back door with ski binders and rental return forms. Please bind the skis and poles and fill out the form to leave with the gear. Please set the boots on the deck under the roofline.
Drop off deadline for all equipment is March 31.
THANKS, EVERYONE. LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING YOU TOMORROW.
