What is the discretionary fund
Your discretionary fund is usually $5 or $10 per skier, depending on your budget, and can be used by the club throughout the season. If you are in need of more money in your DF, your club can do some local fundraising. Funds can be sent directly to MYSL to be added to your club DF.
Fundraising is tax-deductible and this statment must be given to donors:
"Your contribution is fully tax-deductible under terms of section 170 of the Internal Revenue Code. No goods or services were provided in return for this contribution. The Minnesota Youth Ski League's federal tax exemption number is 41-1764450."
A few clubs hold checkbooks. They must submit their own tax filing unless they are using the MYSL tax id (grandfather clause), in which case they need to submit an income/expense report and bank statements to MYSL yearly.
How to check your club's balance
Balances can be viewed by logging in a going to your club page. You then need to click the “edit” tab and scroll down below the text editing box.
How the DF can be used
The DF is typically used for facility rentals, coaches gifts, materials for lessons, hot cocoa, supplies for club celebrations, club banners, etc. Discretionary Funds can also be transferred to your Equipment Fund (but not vice versa).
You can purchase something with your own, personal money and submit receipts to Executive Director for reimbursement. Scan or take a picture of the receipt and email it to Amy. Include a mailing address in your request. You will receive reimbursement in about 2 weeks.
