Central Minnesota Youth Ski Club Volunteer opportunities:
We need you! The Central Minnesota Youth Ski Club is an all-volunteer organization. We depend on parents, high school cross country (nordic) skiers, parents/guardians and other adult volunteers to provide lessons to children ages 4 to 14.
With your participation, we can continue to create great winter experiences for youth skiers!
Volunteer activities include:
Coaching is one of the most important and enjoyable ways you can volunteer. While the Central Minnesota Youth Ski Club is fortunate to have some of its coaches returning this year, we need more adult coaches to keep our coach-to-skier ratio high. Anyone can coach, as you don’t need to be an expert skier to volunteer. The Minnesota Youth Ski League (MYSL) has an excellent week-by-week curriculum, which includes many games on skis. Please contact the Central Minnesota Youth Ski Club Coordinator, Nicholas Snavely, at email@example.com if you can make this valuable contribution.
In addition, Assistant Coaches have made a real contribution to the Club. If you are a high school cross country (nordic) skier and would be willing to serve as an Assistant Coach, we really need you!
Assistant Coaches should register online at http://mysl.org/registration and notify Nicholas Snavely, Central Minnesota Youth Ski Club Coordinator, at firstname.lastname@example.org that they will be an Assistant Coach. There is no charge to register as a “Junior Coach” and a parent needs to sign the online waiver.
Skiers and others interested in being a volunteer Central Minnesota Youth Ski Club Coach or Assistant Coach should also please fill out the Central Minnesota Youth Ski Club survey at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/ZL6THM6
Minnesota Youth Ski League Coaches Training
The Central Minnesota Youth Ski Club Coordinator has attended the coaches training during four previous years and is willing to share this information with interested Coaches and Assistant Coaches.
The Club also needs volunteers to coordinate snacks and drinks for youth skiers, to serve as attendants in the shelter, handing out bibs, sorting skiers into ski groups and to plan the end of season potluck and other logistics. Please contact the Coordinator if you are interested in any of the volunteer activities.
The Club encourages parents to ski with their kids - they love to see you doing the same thing and being able to show you what they can do! We encourage you to ski with your child's level and to help with games and exercises. You may even learn how to coach!
Leading a Special Ski Day
Help prepare a fun activity for the kids to enjoy during the class, such as a treasure hunt, face painting, a destination ski to find a special treat, ski acrobatics or anything you can think of. A fun activity is a great way to teach skiing without the kids knowing they are being taught.
We'd like to capture pictures of our skiers for sharing on our Facebook website at https://www.facebook.com/CentralMinnesotaYouthSkiClub . Do you have a digital camera to take some pictures of the youth skiers? Are you tech-savvy and able to organize a slide show to show at the end of the season potluck? If you have taken pictures in the past, please email copies to email@example.com
Assisting with fundraising efforts
Funds are used to cover the warming shelter rental, as well as raising funds for additional needs such as obtaining grants and donations for cross country skis, boots and poles for youth needing cross country ski equipment.
"I'll make sure the lists are updated, the families are registered and organize bibs so kids are in correct levels with their nametags in their bibs with the proper color coded level background insert."
“I can coordinate hat handout at the beginning of the year and count out level pins to be distributed at the end of the ski season."
Riverside Shelter Monitor
“I can monitor the shelter, make and keep the fire going and direct kids and parents arriving where to go when the show up to get in their group level.”
"I'm full of fun, I'll set up a candy cane hunt, a marshmallow roast, a scavenger hunt, an obstacle course, musicians or clowns to keep things fun for the kids."
"I'm full of fun and organized too, I'll make sure all the marshmallows are there for the roast, that the clowns don't get lost and that we have something for each week, rather than everything on one week. I'll also plan potlucks and other events."
