MYSL Tour - Wirth, Minneapolis
Theodore Wirth Park, Minneapolis
(no meeting this week)
Date: Sunday January 29th, 2006
Number of kids: 58
Leaders: Christa Anders and Tom MacLeod
Conditions: mud and ice, grey skies, 40 degrees
The Wirth club, after a flurry of emails during the past 24 hours, decided not to meet this week. A few of their diehards still headed up to Elm Creek to ski in the brown slush.
Wirth Park, a Minneapolis City Park, is on the verge of having their very own snowmaking for next season, thanks primarily to the efforts of the City of Lakes Loppet Ski Foundation and John Munger (whose daughter is a first year MYSL skier). So hopefully next year will be more consistent for the Wirth skiers. Despite the mud and ice, this club has seen amazing growth this year, going from about 25 kids the past two years to nearly 60 this year! I think they did a bit more grassroots advertising and it certainly doesn't hurt that they are at the heart of the Minneapolis population center.
Wirth is my "home" course; that is the closest, consistently groomed trail near my house. So I will be sure to meet up with the MYSL kids next year.
