REGISTRATION & EQUIPMENT DISTRIBUTION FOR THE 2020 SEASON:
December 5, 2019 from 3:30-5:30 at the Hidden Valley Chalet. If you missed it, come EARLY the first day (12:30-1pm)
DATES AND TIMES:
Eight Sundays in 2020:
January 5, 12, 19, 26 & February 2, 9, 16, 23
from 2:00- 3:30
COST:
Cost for the season is $35 (early bird; then $40). Scholarships are available for those unable to pay the registration fee. Refunds will NOT be given if classes are cancelled due to weather (most years only one Sunday gets cancelled).
EQUIPMENT:
Ely MYSL club rents youth ski equipment for $20 for the season to participating children. Equipment includes cross country skis, boot & poles. Equipment is limited and will be assigned to individuals on a first come, first serve basis beginning registration night. Sorry, no non-MYSL rentals, (so skiers must be registered BEFORE renting equipment) however some larger sizes may be available for parents/guardians to rent.
CANCELLATIONS:
If the weather is too severe or the trail conditions are too poor to hold classes, we will send out an email on Saturday notifying you of a cancellation. Cancellations will also be announced on WELY and posted on Facebook. If classes are cancelled, there will not be make up dates.
WHAT TO WEAR:
Dressing in layers works best for ski lessons. Start with a basic layer of long underwear, followed by an insulating layer such as fleece or wool and then a wind shell layer. Avoid jeans, cotton socks, and other cotton clothes as much as possible because they absorb moisture and freeze. Wear a hat and mittens (mittens are warmer than gloves). Sunglasses and a neck gator or scarf may be needed some days. Keep moving to stay warm!
SNACKS:
Halfway through practice, each group will take turns coming into the chalet to warm up and have a snack. All MYSL families are assigned to be on snack duty for one Sunday during the eight week session. Half the group will set up and serve the snack, the other half of the group will clean up. MYSL parents who are coaching (or are otherwise a "core volunteer") will not have to help serve or clean up. (NEW for 2020) Simple store-bought snacks as well as napkins, plates, and beverages (hot cocoa and water) will be provided. If you are unable to perform your snack duty, it is your responsibility to contact another family to switch duties. A list of snack assignments and contact information will be provided in December.
WHAT IS ENSC?
Ely Nordic Ski Club is the non-profit organization run by volunteers that manages the Hidden Valley Recreation Area. They rely on membership donations to plan, groom, and manage the 25+ kilometers of machine-groomed ski trails25+ km of machine-groomed ski trails and to maintain the newly renovated chalet. They also groom the Terzona Trail! Without ENSC, the Ely chapter of MYSL and the Timberwolves ski team would not be possible.
