Bunker Hills Youth Ski Club
2019 Schedule and Location
Our meeting location is at the Bunker Hills Golf Course.
There is a discount for early registration. Follow the "Update Household... and Sign Up" link at the top right of this page. Be sure to select the correct club location.
A limited number of rental equipment is available at a rate of $35 for the season. Children will be able to take the equipment for use during the entire winter season. When you add equipment rental to your registration you will need to provide each child's height, weight and boot size (Euro) shoe size conversion
It is best to distribute equipment at least a week prior to our first meeting as it allows time to get additional equipment if we run out of a size. Equipment will be distributed on Dec 29 and 30th, 2017. Those renting will be notified of the times, or arrangments can be made for other pick up. Familes who cannot get equipment the week prior will be sized one half hour before our fist meeting (12:30 Jan 6, 2018).
Weather and Cancelation Policy
We will not ski if the air temperature is below 0˚ F, the wind chill is below -10˚ F, or at the leader's discretion. Cancellations will be sent out by email to the address provided at registration. Cancellations will not be rescheduled.
Dress your child appropriately for the day's weather. Start with good ski socks. Younger children that fall more easily could wear snow suits if there is new snow. Older children should wear layers: polypropylene or moisture wicking under layer, insulating fleece or wool layer, and a non-absorbent wind proof outer layer to cut the wind and keep out the snow. Warm hats and mittens are mandatory. Please use your discretion noting your child's activity level and the outside temperature/wind chill. Often a winter jacket and snow pants or a snow suit are too warm once the child gets skiing.
Kids in levels 3, 4, 5 and 6 should have and carry a water bottle. Parents should carry bottles for the younger kids. These kids go pretty hard and get dehydrated quickly. As they will drink sweet tasting liquid more easily in the cold, fill it with GatorAid, PowerAid or KoolAid. The snow may look clean but.....
This is a volunteer run club. The success and affordability of this program comes directly from your contributions of time, energy, and talent. By registering for this club, you are committing to the club's success and are agreeing to volunteer. Level 1 skiers will need to be accompanied by a parent. Coaching at level 1 is a great way to accompany your child. Please consider coaching as it is our number one need! You do not necessarily need to coach at your child's level.
Following are some suggested areas of volunteer service:
Coaching is one of the more enjoyable volunteer opportunities. The MYSL program makes it easy for a coach to know what to do. An eight week curriculum has been prepared for every class level and each day's lesson. The guide also provides many helpful tips and games to keep classes enjoyable and interesting. You do not have to be an elite level skier to be a coach. All you need is a desire to help kids and have fun. We really need your help! If you are considering to volunteer as a coach, please contact me. It is important to finalize our coach count early.
Assistant Coaching –
Parent tag-a-longs for all levels. Assist skiers as they learn to put on and take off skies. Walk or ski alongside the group and give encouragment.
Snack Coordinator –
We are asking for volunteers each week to bring juice or snack. There will be a signup sheet at our first meeting. Snack Coodinator will be responsible for parent signup, reminder calls or emails, preparation of snacks prior to sessions end and encourage kids to clean up after thier snack.
Equipment Coordinator –
assist our head coordinator with distributing equipment, keeping track of who has what, and collecting equipment at the end of the season.
Bib Coordinator –
Writes the names of the each participant on an index card prior to the first meeting, distribute bibs and collect them at the end of season.
Each adult skier (16 or older) is required to have a MN State Ski Pass $6/day or $20/season. More information can be obtained at http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/licenses/skipass/index.html.
We will meet each week at the golf course (a parking pass is not required).
