Week #5: Mid-winter is here! And its beautiful!!

This week's parent/coach snow-how tips:

  • Skill videos for all Skill Levels are posted on our YouTube Channel. They are not in sync with the rewrite of our curriculum, but are still very helpful. We have hired a Creative Director to visit clubs starting this weekend to take new photos and videos to enhance our curriculum! Say hi to Simon if you see him.

  • There is a great bonus video about how to wax skate skis. Most of you have no-maintenance fish scale classic skis that don't require waxing, but this video is a great way to demystify the subject of glide waxing. Worth a few minutes of your time for sure!

  • Poles: Curriculum Week #5 has a pole emphasis. Level 2 uses poles for the first time, Level 3 learns double pole and Level 4 learns double pole kick.
  • Pole fit is important for proper technique (and to prevent unnecessary tangles when you fall). Please take the time to check the adjustment of pole straps. Hands come up from the bottom of the loop and the strap should hold the hand (with mitten/glove on) snug to the handle. Straps that are too loose cause over-gripping and hinder proper poling motion! Make sure to secure the wedge that anchors the pole after you make adjustments. These are easy to lose and hard to replace;)

Here Comes Jessie Diggins and the Olympics

Jessie Diggins is the most successful US Cross Country skier ever. She is also from Stillwater MN and an MYSL alumna. 

With the Olympics starting next week, there is a lot of press (check out our Facebook Page for our favorite articles). But its also our time to celebrate Jessie!

For years, as Jessie was building her ski career, she wrote a blog just for MYSL kids. Here is one of our favorite posts:

It's truly heartwarming. 

The first event (Feb 5th) is the Women's Skiathlon. Skiers race 7.5K of classic and then switch their skis and poles and continue for another 7.5k of skating!

MyXC Grad Registration

Each year, we celebrate the skiers that are moving on from their MyXC years to new skiing adventures. This year, we will be mailing or delivering graduation hats through Skiwerx and SkiSparks clubs. 

WHO:
*Any skier who has been in a MyXC SkiSparks or Skiwerx Club with a birth year of 2008.
*Any Junior Coach
*If we missed you from a previous year, you can register too!

HOW:

To get a grad hat, we need you to register and tell us about your MyXC experience!

1. Parent login:

Parents: You need to login to your household account, but we really want to hear from your skiers, so please fill out the form together!

2. Junior Coach:

If you are a junior coach that has already filled out the Volunteer Form (meaning you have your own website login):
