MYSL Partners with North Star Ski Touring Club

We are proud to announce a new collaborative effort to get more families skiing together. Both organizations will be sharing their family appropriate event/trip invitations to the members of the other organization. The focus of NSSTC is recreational trips to great locations that will surely create lasting memories for your family.

MYSL members are able to participate in any NSSTC day event that is appropriate for families. If the trip includes an overnight, NSSTC membership is required (but is very affordable).

Athletes and Asthma: The Community Coach's Role

As youth shift to winter sports, the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) is encouraging community coaches in Minnesota to support their young athletes with asthma by taking a new online training course.

The Minnesota Youth Ski League (MYSL) has already joined with MDH and is having its coaches take the course Athletes and Asthma: The Community Coach’s Role, now live on the MDH’s website.

MyXC Invitation to New Board Members!

The Minnesota Youth Ski League (MYSL) is seeking additional enthusiastic and quality Board members.

Mission Driven

The MYSL teaches the skills and benefits of Nordic skiing to kids and families as an exciting, healthy, lifelong activity.

Dynamic Vision

The MYSL aspires to maintain its status as the largest youth and family Nordic ski teaching program in the nation, transforming thousands of people into healthy skiers.

Creating Lifelong Skiers

It sounds simple, but it's not as easy as one might think. The right exposure at the right time and the engagement of families and the community are critical.

The the three most important factors are:

1. Gradual exposure to the skills, complexity, time/family commitments,
and expenses of the sport.
2. "Ski for Sport" programs during the skill development window of 9-13 years old.
With entry before 11 being optimal.
3. Staying in a competitive program through growth spurts and beyond.

Meet Alayna Sonnesyn, MYSL almuni

Hello MYSL families! For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Alayna Sonnesyn and I am in the midst of skiing and traveling around the world- chasing my dreams as a professional cross country ski racer!

I grew up in Plymouth, MN where my parents taught me how to ski at a very young age. They encourage my siblings and me to spend as much time as possible outside and to turn activities into adventures with few limits. They brought us to MYSL practice at French Park every Sunday afternoon throughout the winter where we got to ski with our friends AND play games with them.

Meet our Executive Director, Amy Cichanowski

Amy began skiing with her family in Winona at a young age. She quickly aspired to local races and club level racing, attending many Junior Nationals. She started skiing in the high school league in 10th grade and was State Champ (team and individual) in 1988. She went to Middlebury College for one year and skied on the team.  She then came back to the midwest to work with a coach, finishing her Physics degree at St. Mary’s in Winona. She skied many Kortes (winning three times) and attended regional junior training camps in the summer.
