Hoigaards/MYSL Team Sprint Series
Feb 13 2013 - 12:30am
Race Results/Updates: 2.13.13 Congratulations to all of the racers on our final night of the 2013 Team Sprint Series. Thirty teams donned bibs, we had 6 families of four particpating and the big Pie prize went to the parent-child team of Joe and John Lynch. A special thanks to our series Pie Bakers, Heidi and Kuan Teoh and Marc Beitz. See you next year!
2.7.13 Warmer temperatures at Wirth this week made for fast races without frozen toes. We had strong showings in the adult male, adult/youth, and youth divisions. Chris Coffey and Ryan Wilson took the men's title, while Craig and Leah Rudd skied a blazing eight laps to win the adult/youth category. On the kids' side, Ricky Petroff and Nick Kjome, a consistent pair, posted another victory. This week's cherry pie went to Beckie and Per Alexander for skiing the fastest mother/child race. Next week we will wrap up the 2013 MYSL/Hoigaard's Sprint Series with the Parent/Child Championships. The race will be obviously be geared toward parent/child teams, but all racers all welcome. As per usual, if you don't have a partner, we will find you one. See you there!
2.4.13 New snow and mild temperatures mean that Wednesday's MYSL/Hoigaard's sprints are shaping up to be fast and fun. Assuming weather and course conditions cooperate, we will be racing a slightly longer course than usual to test our mettle. All ages and levels are welcome, whether you've come every week so far or have had your eye on the series but haven't yet joined us. Registration runs from 5:30pm to 6:15pm in the main chalet at Wirth. Races start at 6:30pm. This will be our last sprint night before the season-finale Parent-Child Championships on the 13th of February.
1.30.13 Wind and cold temperatures made tonight's MYSL/Hoigaard's Sprint Series race an event for the brave. 11 teams toed the line at Theodore Wirth and classic skied for this week's Teoh apple pie. The award went to Nick Carter and Ethan Peterson for posting the fastest youth time. The winners of the adult race were Hoigaard's team members Ben and Jeremiah Menk. Thanks to all racers for getting out kick wax and joining us. We'll see you again next week at 6:30pm at Wirth for another night of sprint racing.
1.30.13 WAX RECOMENDATION FROM TOKO:
Wirth- mandmade snow, may be icy in spots; 10 degrees F at race time:
Kick wax for tonight: toko green base binder- go a bit thick and ski on this directly works good for manmade snow when its colde (or cover with Toko Blue hard wax). You likely can get away without using Klister. If really icy, then Toko Blue klister should work.
Glide wax: any thing cold like Toko Blue or LF blue
1.29.13 The MYSL/Hoigaard's Sprint Series race this week (Wednesday, January 30) will be classic-focused. That's right - get out your kick wax because we're going to take advantage of cooler temperatures and enjoy classic sprinting in our usual team sprint format. Skating is still permitted, but if you can classic, why not give it a go? Races start at 6:30pm at Theodore Wirth. Registration runs from 5:30pm to 6:15pm in the main chalet. Youth races are free; we request a $5 donation to MYSL for each adult racer. Bring a friend or have us pair you with another skier. Email Lucy at email@example.com with questions or to let us know you are coming
1.23.13 It certainly was chilly at the MYSL/Hoigaard's weekly sprint race last night, but that didn't stop us from having fun! 80 youth, local, and SuperTour racers braved the cold at Wirth last night. Everyone skied fast to stay warm and learn from some of the best skiers in the nation. Athletes from Idaho, Vermont, Maine, Alaska, Minnesota and Wisconsin paired with kids to warm up and then race a team sprint. Channel 5 news shot a short piece about the evening that can be viewed at http://kstp.com/article/stories/S2907144.shtml?cat=12196. A few photos are posted below and full set at http://fastkids.shutterfly.com/329. Thanks to all of the SuperTour athletes, MYSL and Hoigaard's volunteers, and brave spectators for making this event so awesome! NOTE; No results tonight as we were having too much fun watching and temps weren't condusive to app use (which requires some heat to come from your finger). I've posted the start list, so you can id pictures and follow your stars in their future races.
1.16.13 Another night of sprint fun! 17 teams toed the starting line on Wednesday night for six fast loops of the upper stadium course. The men's field was particularly deep this week, and Chip Tabor and Chris Coffy posted the fastest adult time. On the kids' end, Isak Nightengale and Cadin Albrecht flew through their laps in only 13:25 to win the youth division. This week's pie went to father-daughter combo Etta and Eric Leugers after they battled another father-daughter team in the adult-youth division. Check out their beautiful pie and champion smiles in the photo below. We'll see you next week at 6:30pm on Wednesday for "Skiing with the (SuperTour) Stars!"
1.9.13 We had a great night of warm-weather sprint racing at Wirth. 25 teams competed for this week's pumpkin pie. Sibling duo Erik and Madeline Williams won the youth/adult category and took home pie honors as well. Austin Johnson and James Schneider finished first among youth teams, and Audrey Weber and Byron Lubenkov were the first adults across the line. Next week we're upping the ante by lengthening the adult loop from 1.2K to 1.6K, so come to Wirth at 6:30pm next Wednesday to test your speed or just have fun with a friend. NOTE: City Conference HS meet will also be at Wirth on 1.16.13. We race in between their waves. Lots of people and lots of fun. Resutls and pie pic below.
1.2.13 The first night of the Hoigaard's/MYSL Sprint Training series was fun and fast. 15 teams raced at Wirth on a loop around the upper stadium. The next race will be 6:30pm on Wednesday, January 9th at Wirth Park. Register the night of or email firstname.lastname@example.org to pre-register. Results posted below.
