Venue:
French Regional Park

Welcome to the West Metro Silver Skis!

Tuesdays at 6:30 p. m. at French Park.

This is the second year for West Metro Silver Skis.  Silver Skis is primarily targeted for experienced skiers at or beyond level 5 who are interested in improving their endurance, working on their classic and skate technique and possibly learning some race level skills.  Race participation will be supported but not required.  Our main goal is to have fun on skis with other skiers of similar ability and age.  Generally the ages for this group are 10 – 14 years old.

Schedule and location

Tuesdays 6:30 – 7:45, French Park, dryland training began November 3.  On snow happens whenever we get snow. We will continue into March, if the snow stays.

French Park is located on the south side of County Road 9 in Plymouth about 1 mile east of Highway 494.  Meet at the Vistors Center.

If we have poor snow conditions or no snow, we will move our session to Elm Creek Park Reserve where they have a 2.5 kilometer snow making loop.

This is the 2nd year of the MYSL race series called Metro Nordic Youth Super Series (MNYSS).  Check back for dates.

Registration

Skiers can now register (see link above).

Weather and cancellation policy

We will cancel if the temperature is forecast to be colder than -10F, or if wind chills are forecast to be colder than -15F.  In case of cancellation we will try to email our members the evening before or the morning of our meeting, as well as posting an update on the MYSL website.

Equipment

Silver Skiers will practice both classic and skate skiing.  Ideally skiers should have a set of both classic and skate skis.  This is not feasible for many of us, so combi skis and boots are an okay comprise.  However, it is necessary to have two pairs of poles.  Two cheap pairs of poles are a better choice than one expensive pair that is the wrong length.  Classic poles should reach between the 2" below a skier’s shoulder and up to the top of their shoulder, skate poles should come between their chin and their upper lip.Three Rivers Park District rents both classic and skate skis.  Those who intend to rent should come 30 minutes early to complete the rental process.

Volunteering

MYSL is a volunteer-run organization, so we may need help with coaching.

We may need help coordinating snacks for after skiing if participants are interested.

Parking and other fees

All adults and skiers over the age of 12 are required to have a Three Rivers trail pass.  These can be purchased at any Three Rivers park that has ski trails or through the Three Rivers website.  A daily pass is $4 and a season pass is $50 and a second pass for someone in the same household is $25.

There is no fee for parking.
